The Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan Committee

The Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan Committee was formed in 1996. In 1999 the remit of the Committee was extended to the Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan and Transportation Committee in recognition of the need for the councils within Ayrshire to consider both strategic planning and transport matters in a consistent manner. A revised Minute of Agreement was agreed by the Joint Committee on 30 June 2000.

In 2000 Scottish Ministers approved the Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan the first joint plan in Scotland in 2000. In March 2003 the Joint Committee agreed that work should begin on a replacement plan. This replacement was submitted to the Scottish Ministers on 14 June 2006.

The Joint Committee comprises of four councilors from each of the three Councils within Ayrshire, it meets every three months, the chair of the Joint Committee changes on an annual basis.


Technical Management Team

A technical management team comprising of the Heads of Planning and the Manager of the Structure Plan Team meet on a regular basis. It is their function to liaise with constituent councils on the preparation of the Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan and ensure proper integration between local and strategic issues.

A Structure Plan Team based at Prestwick supports the work of the Joint Committee.
