The Ayrshire
Joint Structure Plan Committee was formed in 1996. In 1999 the
remit of the Committee was extended to the Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan
and Transportation Committee in recognition of the need for the councils
within Ayrshire to consider both strategic planning and transport matters
in a consistent manner. A revised Minute
of Agreement was agreed by the Joint Committee on 30 June 2000.
In 2000 Scottish Ministers approved the Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan
the first joint plan in Scotland in 2000. In March 2003 the Joint Committee
agreed that work should begin on a replacement plan. This replacement
was submitted to the Scottish Ministers on 14 June 2006.
The Joint Committee comprises
of four councilors from each of the three Councils within Ayrshire, it
meets every three months, the chair of the Joint Committee changes on
an annual basis.
A technical management team comprising
of the Heads of Planning and the Manager of the Structure
Plan Team meet on a regular basis. It is their function
to liaise with constituent councils on the preparation of the
Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan and ensure proper integration
between local and strategic issues.
A Structure
Plan Team based at Prestwick supports the work of the
Joint Committee.
